As role models for younger children, Redwoods take their whole school responsibilities seriously; they are expected to model excellent behaviour, a positive attitude towards school and learning, and take pride in their work at all times.
Learning in Redwoods is engaging and challenging. Redwoods children are exposed to a variety of teaching styles which ensure all children are excited and enthused in their learning, make the maximum possible progress while also developing independence.
Mr Abraham teaches Redwoods.
PE lessons are every Wednesday with Mrs Bamber (PE teacher).
Please ensure that PE kit is worn to school on these days.
Homework is designed to encourage independence. Our expectations are as follows:
- Reading on a daily basis (minimum of 15 minutes per day)
- Spellings taken from the Y5/6 and/or Y3/4 list (follow links below)
- Times Tables practice - this should include at least 15 x 1 minute sessions on TT Rock Stars (children all have their unique user ID and password which can be used to access from home)
- Project learning themed around our termly topic where the children will be able to choose from a range of activities designed to take their learning out of the classroom.
Redwoods Parent Update - Friday 20th December 2024
Dear Redwoods parents,
We’ve reached the end of a long but very productive and successful term. The children have all worked extremely hard and deserve to have a nice rest over the festive period. They have done a wonderful job this week demonstrating our Bearnes values to the visitors we have had in school. The visitors gave very high praise to the way the Redwoods children shared their learning and attitudes. Well done!
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Christmas poetry performance on Tuesday. I’m sure you will agree that their poems were amazing, and they read them with great confidence and prosody.
In maths, we have learned how to solve multi-step word problems involving all four operations. In geography, we practised our OS map skills (including 4-digit and 6-digit references), solved the mystery of how the Cambrian mountains helped the people of Birmingham in 1898, and the advantages and disadvantages of hydroelectric power.
We also finished our British Values unit on UK parliament. This will hopefully make next month’s trip to the Houses of Parliament more meaningful as they connect the visit to their learning in school.
Please note that the trip will be on the first day back at school - Tuesday 7th January - and children will need to be dropped off at school at 4:45am.
For home learning, children should:
-
Read for at least 20 minutes daily and write it in their Reading Record
-
Practise their times tables using https://ttrockstars.com for at least five minutes every day
-
Complete the maths tasks assigned on https://www.maths.co.uk/
Well done to our Star of the Week, Ethan, who has consistently demonstrated our value to an extremely high standard throughout the term, and in particular this week.
Have a great winter break,
Mr. Abraham
