As role models for younger children, Redwoods take their whole school responsibilities seriously; they are expected to model excellent behaviour, a positive attitude towards school and learning, and take pride in their work at all times.
Learning in Redwoods is engaging and challenging. Redwoods children are exposed to a variety of teaching styles which ensure all children are excited and enthused in their learning, make the maximum possible progress while also developing independence.
Mr Abraham teaches Redwoods.
PE lessons are every Wednesday with Mrs Bamber (PE teacher).
Please ensure that PE kit is worn to school on these days.
Homework is designed to encourage independence. Our expectations are as follows:
- Reading on a daily basis (minimum of 15 minutes per day)
- Spellings taken from the Y5/6 and/or Y3/4 list (follow links below)
- Times Tables practice - this should include at least 15 x 1 minute sessions on TT Rock Stars (children all have their unique user ID and password which can be used to access from home)
- Project learning themed around our termly topic where the children will be able to choose from a range of activities designed to take their learning out of the classroom.
Redwoods Parent Update - Friday 7th March 2025
Dear Redwoods parents,
We’ve had a lovely week that was capped off by celebrating World Book Day on Thursday. We loved seeing all the great outfits and we enjoyed walking to Waterstones to pick up our new books. I hope all the children enjoy reading them! We also really enjoyed meeting Jack’s puppies on Monday morning.
In English, we read through ‘How to Live Like a Stone Age Hunter’ and identified features of informal writing, such as first person and contractions. In maths, we have learned how to calculate the volume of a cuboid and investigated how it is connected to area. There is a written home learning task to accompany this.
In science, we explored how adults change from the age of 20 and above and the effects on various different bodily functions. In history, we studied the events and significance of the Battle of Britain. In P.E. we are learning how to play handball, and in P.E. the children are learning martial arts with Mr. Kelly.
Well done to our star of the week, Gracie, who always has an outstanding positive attitude towards learning and shares her ideas confidently with others.
For home learning, children should:
-
Read for at least 20 minutes daily and write it in their Reading Record
-
Practise their times tables using https://ttrockstars.com for at least five minutes every day
-
Complete the maths tasks assigned on https://www.maths.co.uk/
-
Complete the reading comprehension task about the Battle of Britain.
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Abraham
